A recently published study from Norway finds that physical activity can help boost children’s moods in the long term. The researchers, led by lead author Tonje Zahl at the Norwegian University of Science and Technology, investigated nearly 800 children between the ages of 6 and 8 and assessed their physical activity patterns through a wearable device. They found that children who participated in moderate to vigorous exercise were less likely to show symptoms of depression two years later.

The study, called “Physical Activity, Sedentary Behavior, and Symptoms of Major Depression in Middle Childhood,” could not be concluded but did note that the effect of exercise on depression was not huge, but that when children were Exercising there is no downside, but it can prevent depressive symptoms in the future.

Is sedentary activity negative?
